Did you know that by eating just one piece of sugary candy your immune system is put at risk for 5 full hours? That means if you snack on sugar during the day, then have something sugary at night your immune system is always at risk. There are a bunch of awesome alternatives to process sugar, one of my favorites is fruit! Cherries are a great sweet tooth fix, as well as tea! There are some really nice post dinner teas that not only stave off sugar cravings, but also help you rest better (which sugar will not!)
Another great strategy is to start your day with some fresh pressed juice. We use our Breville every morning without fail, and we include some pineapple, grapes or apples with our Kale, Romaine, cucumber, celery,
purple carrots, golden beets and turmeric and ginger roots. I don’t let anything but water and juice into my mouth in the am, and it has been clearly beneficial. My skin feels better, my energy level is more consistent and I feel full faster at the other meals during the day.
Pressed juice is different from a smoothie because the fiber is extracted. It is not recommended that you substitute fresh fruits and veggies with juice, but since our plant based vegan eating habits consist primarily of fresh vegetables we are not at risk of low fiber intake. Fiber is an important part of a healthy diet, but if your fiber intake is adequate, then feel free to JUICE IT UP!
