Knowing exactly what it is you want from your year, your month, your week, your day or your moment takes a clear vision, right?! Sometimes a step back really helps us gain clarity.  When we feel like the chaos of life is sweeping us up and carrying us around aimlessly, its time to take that step back.

If you feel like you left your new years goal on the curb with your Christmas tree, its not too late to step back,  re-asses and reset! Dropping a goal is normal, it may just have been too lofty.  It does not mean that you can’t make progress towards it anyway!

Step back and look at your purpose or reason for setting for the goal. Why do you want to attain this goal? This alone could be the key that keeps you on track. Humans need reasons, we need whys before we have hows! Gaining clarity can happen in a single moment, but for most of us it takes a little more time and effort.

Give yourself the time today to sit quietly and write down 5 short term goals and your reason for setting them. Write one for today, and spread the rest out between this week and the rest of March.  Then write down 3 long term goals and your reason for setting them, goals you would like to accomplish in the next 3 months, 6 months or year. Leave space below each goal so that you have room to make notes and revisions.

Then, accomplish your today goal asap and cross it off! Your goal can be as small as pay the bills, meditate for 5 minutes or wash the dog. This is a goal you know you are capable of and it will feel great to check it off. Enter your goal dates in your calendar. (if you aren’t keeping a calendar its time to start). People who have outlines and plans for their goals accomplish them much more efficiently than those that do not. Set time aside on your calendar to work on your goals. Note in your calendar any incentives you are giving yourself. For example, my goal this week is to complete a 3 day juice cleanse without cheating. Today, the end of day 2, I get a massage to incentivize my focus!

We all struggle with our vices. Whether it’s procrastination, over indulgence, complacency, or fill in the blank, you are stronger than that vice. Don’t let it own you, its not you, its something you are holding on to that you can change. You can let go.
