Humans are so good at finding the path of least resistance. Convenience has many of us sitting on the couch ordering pizza from our computer and the only task we have to undertake is walking to the front door to get the food. Our ability to evert hard tasks is a double edge sword. Its not too surprising that most people do not exercise. The top excuses I hear for lack of exercise are being tired and too busy. These excuses are completely surmountable. Everyone is tired and everyone is busy. The value of your health outweighs any one excuse. Make time for it. Next time you feel tired or busy and you know you should work out WATCH THIS and then remind me what your excuse is. Check out these stats from Statistic Brain:
Exercise Statistics | Percent |
Exercise for at least 30 minutes three days per week | 49.6% |
Exercise one or two days per week | 18.5% |
Haven’t exercised within the last week | 31.3% |
Percent of Americans making more than $90,000 per year that excerise | 54.3% |
National average of americans that exercise regularly | 49.6% |
Percent of obese Americans that do not exercise 30 minutes any given day | 40.4% |
So where do you fit in on the exercise spectrum? Its easy to say that you “exercise regularly” when you really don’t. If a week goes by and you have not exercised moderately to vigorously at least 3 days for a half hour to an hour you are not exercising regularly. (unless you were REALLY sick or injured badly, and even then you can still move!) Moving is what the human body is made for. Even on the days you do not exercise you need to stay mobilized. Walking, rolling biking and stretching on your off days is essential to keep hard working bodies supple. It is also essential to move in order to keep the mind healthy. Exercise is the best medication for depression. When life gets rough, a consistent exercise plan will be your go to stress relief.
The best gift you can give yourself and your family is your health. If you don’t have the motivation to “do it for yourself”, do it for those you love. If you choose not to then your loved ones will bear the burden of you sickly, immobile body. See the big picture and make your move!
