There are times when life will challenge us all to a point where we need to be sad, angry, frustrated, and confused. These emotions are gifts that are the driving force behind change. Its our choice whether that change is positive or negative.

This art is the reason today’s post was late, I took way too long to puzzle it together!!!

 

The most successful people I know spend little time on the problem and redirect their focus on a solution.  Time spent on dealing with the emotions is valuable. Meditation, exercise, adequate sleep (6-8hrs)  and a healthy diet are very good ways to deal with rough patches and build positive habits.  When people turn to unhealthy and destructive habits, it can be a way of punishing themselves. The person becomes too weak to deal with the issue at hand, and the unhealthy behavior actually becomes an excuse for their inability to deal with the problem. Healthy behaviors, on the other hand, are a way of managing the dark emotions and redirecting them in a positive way. Though unhealthy behaviors may be gratifying in the short term, they are destructive in the long run; though healthy habits seem hard at first, when practiced consistently they are much more efficient. They also help you actually deal with the problem instead of bury it under destructive habits.

Now, if I get in a situation where I feel negative it does not mean all is lost. In fact, it is the practice of catching that negative thought that I am attempting. Everyone has them, but few people understand the power of catching them. So tomorrow when I can’t pull out of my street into the road because there is a line of cars going 40 in a 25 I might want to get annoyed at them for speeding. I may even say to myself “WTF?”, if it gets that far. But before long I’ll remember that I committed the positive habit above to all of you and  feel a great sense of power because I just shut that bad vibe down!
