Easy Pose

Is one of the best poses for aligning and lengthening your spine.  As much as this is an active pose – as it works the muscles in your back, abdominal wall, and hips – it is also a grounding pose that is sustainable for several rounds of breath.

Easy Pose (Sukhasana)

  • Come to a comfortable seat, with your legs crossed.
  • Use a block or towel to prop yourself up – this will bring your hips higher than your knees help those who have tight hip flexors.
  • Allow a space between your heels and your pelvis.
  • Firmly root down through your sits bones.
  • Shift your shoulders over your hips and engage your core.
  • Melt your shoulder blades down your back.
  • Rest your hands on your thighs or bring your hands to your heart center and press your thumbs into your sternum.
  • Reach the crown of your head toward the sky as you inhale.
  • Continue to engage your core as you exhale.

Body

Easy Pose strengthens the front and back of your core – your spine and your abdominal muscles.  It also works your outer hip muscles, as you work to bring your knees wide

Mind

Easy pose cultivates a focused, centered mind.  When you hold this pose for several rounds of breath, you bring your body and mind into a calm, meditative state.

Chakra

As you ignite the muscles in your abdominal wall and your spine, Easy Pose activates your third chakra, Manipura.  This chakra is located at the navel, just above the solar plexus.  The lumbar spine (lower back) and abdominal wall are key players in this chakra.  The color of this chakra is yellow. “Activation of the Manipura Chakra frees one from negative energies and purifies and strengthens one’s vitality.”

Spirit

Take a few minutes in the morning or during the day to come into Easy Pose.  Hold and breath in this pose, focusing on just your breath.  Quiet your mind and create space between your thoughts and your consciousness.  Notice how this shifts your day and uplifts your spirit.
