I never wore much, but I completely stopped wearing makeup 6 weeks ago. I just got tired of it. I decided instead of spending time covering myself up, I’d spend that time and effort on taking care of my skin. I have had 2 facials and bought myself a nice home kit to keep my skin clean. I will admit, I don’t think I look as good as I do with makeup, but I will also admit that I don’t care! This is me, with all my facial imperfections, out for everyone to see. I earned every spot and every wrinkle on this hard working, happy face and I’m finally comfortable enough to show it.

Maybe this is not for everyone, but for me it’s been a good way to change my notion of beauty. Instead of foundation, blush and mascara, I intentionally put on a smile. Thats it.
This made me realize what I know of as beauty has nothing to do with how people look. It has changed the way I see many things, including beauty. Beauty is a feeling. It’s love for life, for people, for nature, for things that really matter in this world. Health is beauty. It’s knowing that no matter what I look like, I am a good, strong, healthy, loving, caring, thoughtful, intelligent woman and I have earned the right to be myself. It is a statement that no one is perfect, and that imperfections make variety. It is a powerful reminder that I am only human.

Doing this was not easy at first. I was totally embarrassed and looked down a lot! Now I don’t even think about it. I’m not saying I won’t ever wear makeup again, special occasions will call for it… but it’s been really nice to let go of that struggle to look like anything else besides exactly who I am.

Life is short. Why not use this time to accept ourselves for the awesomeness that we are, to focus more on love and less on looks, to LOVE each other for our similarities as much as our differences? In this world so focused on aesthetics, I think it’s high time we started grooming the beauty of our spirit and being proud of how awesome that is. Plus, who needs makeup when you have awesome glasses! 👓👀

To the beauty that is you, from the beauty that is me; to your health,

🙂 Coach Michelle

The ones that love us most don’t see us for how we look, but for who we are.
