We are all afraid of something. The challenge is facing our fear so that we can see it for what it really is and deal with it.
BOOT CAMP LAFAYETTE CA FACE YOUR FEAR
When I was 5, I was obsessed with a bed time fear. Convinced that there was a dead person outside, I would get in bed and hide under the sheets until I fell asleep. One night i couldnt sleep. Obsessing on my “boogie man”, I got up all my courage and snuck out! I tip toed down the hallway, silently opened the back door, and painfully crept all the way around to the side of the house where my bedroom window looked out.

The full moon lit up the night almost as well as the sun could, except for the contrast of the tall, dark, creepy shadows that the night brings. After about 5 minutes of standing, shaking and peeking around the corner glued to my parents sliding glass door, I stepped around the corner. Sitting in the middle of the side yard was a big white cat; my best friend Shannons cat. We connected eyes and that cat was more afraid than I was! It bolted into the shadows and I sighed with relief.

I will never forget that night, creeping back to bed. Never again did I fear the window, but every night I looked out to see if that cat was there. I had been my own Boogie man, there was really nothing to be afraid of but a big fat white cat. I looked my BIG fear right in the eyes and was startled to see my fear was afraid of ME!

Growing up, I looked back on that night many times when challenges arose. I realized that my greatest fears were built up by me, in my wonderful imagination, (my great ally and worst enemy!). I found that though some fears are justified, most are just a fear of the unknown.
