It’s the first day of Fall, and that means the season of The GUMSABA is upon us! At this days long festival, people of the Washoe (now pronounced Tahoe) tribe would invite surrounding tribes to Lake Tahoe to bring their finest goods, skills and talents to trade. Plans for the future of the tribes were spoken, negotiations for land and goods were made. Tribal members who had passed on to the next life were honored with dance and prayer. The Gumsaba was a time to put disagreements and differences aside and have A BIGTIME! It was a time to acknowledge each others greatness, to tighten the community they built, and to appreciate the amazing gifts of nature.
Today and every day, we celebrate our health as the Washoe celebrated The Gumsaba. Whether we are at class, at work, at home, at a ball game, wherever, we always bring our best to the situation. We hold gratitude for all of life’s wonderful blessings, and we honor the best in one and other.
Wishing you a joyful and healthy season of The Gumsaba!
