There are many opportunities for distraction in todays world. These distractions draw us out of our minds and bodies, they sabotage our spirit. Distractions are the easy way out because they force us away from our reality, and reality is imperfect. We don’t like to face our imperfections because they don’t make us feel good. The problem is that when we keep turning away from what we need to see we lose the opportunity to fix the very thing that keeps us turning away.
We all have issues we need to work on. If we don’t then why are we alive? The purpose of life is to grow, to learn and to pass on this knowledge to those we love so that they can cultivate their own wisdom. When we take the time to learn about ourselves, we begin to understand one another better. We show more compassion for each other because through our own journey we have cultivated empathy. We understand the struggle to be the best person we can possibly be. And that is HARD WORK. You’ve heard me say it many times. NO ONE IS PERFECT. Nature is imperfect and we are a part of that nature.
This weekend I had the wonderful exhilarating privilege of training my mind, body and spirit with some of the most amazing people in the fitness and exercise science industry. They are true givers, cultivators of energy, and for the most part completely selfless people. Humbled by their knowledge and genuinely excited to attend every session, I felt like a human sponge! Every class was an opportunity to step into the minds and spirits of a great leader. So cool!!!
Wouldn’t you feel the same way if given the opportunity?
I was shocked to see some people at the event were questioning so much of what the Coaches had to say. They walked in to this experience with their cup full, and some were blatantly rude. I had to check my own head a few times because judging them would be just as egocentric as them judging the Coaches! Instead of wasting that energy, I poured all of my excitement toward the drills, toward the lessons. I was curious and eager to absorb new knowledge. In the end, I was the recipient of 2 team leader awards at two separate seminars. I didn’t kiss butt or act like I knew it all. My cup was empty and I trusted someone else to fill it.
The point of this story is this: no one knows everything BUT when we know ourselves we can set aside the bullshit in our minds by calling that B.S. it exactly what it is. We can laugh at ourselves when we make mistakes because we know EVERYONE DOES and NO ONE IS PERFECT. No one is better than anyone else. We are just different.
We are all Coaches. If you are a parent, guess what YOU ARE A COACH. If you are a “boss” you are a Coach. If you are a Teacher, you are a Coach. If you are a friend, a wife, a husband, you too are a Coach. To be great at leading people, to be a great Coach, you must be greatly coachable. The best leaders out there are more willing to learn than anyone, their cup is empty. Leaders know themselves enough to know that they don’t know it all, but they are willing to know more.
Cheers to all of you, for you bring out the best in me. You Coach me, you Coach all of the Gumsaba Coaches with your movement, your effort, your enthusiasm, your genuine goodness. We are so blessed to know one and other and I am humbled by all of you incredibly wonderful people. I promise to give you my best effort and I trust you to keep me honest!
Thank you!!!
🙂 Coach Michelle
