“Once you stop learning, you start dying”. – Albert Einstein

Learning is the path of growth, and if you think about it, there are multiple opportunities to grow each and every day of our lives. From gleaning lessons from little mistakes we make, or things that we say that we didn’t mean to say, to opening our hearts to new ways of thinking and vast realities, learning offers us the gift of exponential life. Whether you are learning patience while waiting in line or sitting in traffic, or learning the true meaning of love by looking into the eyes of an innocent life, they are all equal opportunities to learn.

We gravitate to the wonderful things in life; but sometimes the things that make us uncomfortable have the most valuable lessons (HELLO BURPEES 🙂

Living is not about getting everything right. Its about being agile, making adjustments to your mind and learning as much as you can so that you can enrich your soul and pass the gusto of life to others.

Now for the story that inspired this writing and some very honest internal dialogue…

I go to yoga almost every Thursday at 6am. Its a much needed stretch after the running and workouts that have already occurred this week and I love it. I need it. Once in a while I will get crammed into a spot I don’t like by someone who is late – I’m always early. Sometimes there are people that exhale really loud and those things both “bug” me. Today both of those things happened…

As I worked thorough my practice I decided to learn from the experience. Immediately my heart filled with a giant balloon of compassion for the person who was rushing late. Internal dialogue: She may have had a really hard night and got to bed late – for crying out loud, she is there to set her shit straight for her own reasons. She’s someones loving mom. Who am I to judge her for being late. Quit being an asshole, Michelle. Then the hissing started. Challenge number two. Internal dialogue two: Don’t people know they are wasting their energy when they hiss and ha instead of breathe gently? Why do people feel the need to be so forceful with their breath. Come on Michelle. This is ridiculous. If it feels really good for someone to do that, why the hell is it bugging me? Just because it isn’t the way I do it? Maybe she is bugged by the fact that I don’t do that! Let it go. Show the love you are more than capable of showing. Maybe she is about to embark on a stressful day and that is just her way of dealing with it. Get over yourself. Ahh, isn’t that better? Yes, totally over it. Here to learn, not to judge.

So, now that you have been in my head for about 15 minutes of mental struggles in yoga today, you can see I made a choice to learn instead of close down and be stiff. I chose empathy over irritation, I consciously chose love over anger. AND DAMN I FEEL GOOD! Im just glad no one had yoga farts today, because that third internal dialogue may not have been so positive. 🙂

Its no trick. Our minds are amazing. Its a matter of repeatedly coming back to what we want in life, and realizing that we are the dictators of how we feel. Its all up to us and that just RULES. It makes life more interesting when we open up to new ideas, and it always, I mean ALWAYS works out in everyones favor.

To your health, Coach Michelle
