We’ve all been there, whether in a workout or in life…that place where you could push, but you just don’t. That complacent space is SO DARN comfortable! That cozy bed, that half baked plank, that lazy thought…while there is nothing wrong with any of these things, they are not things that are making you change for the better. If they are not making you better, then what are these missed opportunities really doing? They are subtracting from the great potential inside that allows us to live our lives to the fullest.

You know when its time to push. You don’t need to be told that you are in your comfort zone, that it’s time to break free! The great thing is, the more you push, the more available the push becomes. It becomes you natural state of doing. Watch out! You might just get comfortable with being uncomfortable because in time you realize that pushing, even though its hard, is totally worth the effort. You break free of old habits and by doing so, you actually lighten your load.

Pushing doesn’t always mean going faster; sometimes it means slowing down or maybe not moving (like in a locked and loaded plank)! It can mean pushing the mind to stay engaged in a workout, which will result in slower, more mindful movement. It might mean giving your plank a boost with super uber engagement, or lifting the top leg in your side plank, staying engaged in spite of it! Can you drop that squat an inch? Then do it. If you can’t do an inch, can you do a half inch? Yes, pushing can mean moving a little faster in a run or doing burpees quicker, but do not belittle the art of the subtle push that, though it may not be visible to others, it lighting a fire within you that burns bright and eternal.

The push is an opportunity to rise up, to take the high road despite the doubts in your mind. Allow yourself to stand tall in the face of any obstacle and find capabilities you never knew you had!

In closing I would like to thank Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for his commitment to the rise of human rights, and thank him for the potential he saw in humanity.
