For so many people, injuries are an excuse NOT to workout. I am here to say that is BS! Injuries are your body’s way of telling you that you need to focus more on proper training form, increase your muscle strength to better support your joints, increase your flexibility to keep your muscles supple and possibly tweak your diet to make sure you are getting proper nutrition and hydration. Injuries are not an excuse to do nothing. Doing nothing for extended periods will only lead to further injury. Don’t get me wrong, we all need rest days, and the need to lay off an injury is valid. However, a knee or shoulder injury isn’t going to affect your navy seal ups, or many of the other countless functional exercises we do at Boot Camp. Thanks to Kristin Ritterbush for sending me this video of the Today show, with Dr. Jordan Metzal that helps to break down this an other myths about your body and working out. Click here to read the article and watch the video from the Today show. You can also vote on your feelings about one of my all time favorite exercises BURPEES!

Many of you will remember that in February of 2011 I managed to give myself a massive deep burn on my leg from boiling tea water. It sucked, but one of the best things I learned was to more mindful. At the time, was doing the 1000 club, and was well on my way to 1000 when it happened. I didnt want to let the stupid burn on my leg stop me. So, I wrapped it up tight every day until I finished my last 300 burpees mindfully (note how my right leg never really bends too much because of the burn). I want to remind you of this because its important that you know your Gümsaba coaches walk the talk. We don’t let little problems get in the way of our big dreams, and we will train you to live the same way. So come to camp in the rain, you might just learn something about how strong you really are!
