1) Exercise Boosts Brainpower

Exercise increases energy levels and increases serotonin in the brain! All that makes for a more productive day. Studies show that those who are active and who exercise are much more productive at work.

2. Movement Melts Away Stress

Exercise produces a relaxation response that serves as a positive distraction. You’re not the only person who will benefit from more happiness and less stress in your life. When you’re less stressed, you’re less irritable!

3. Exercise Gives You Energy

You know that Boot Camp or any other good sweaty workout changes your whole day. When endorphins are released into your bloodstream during exercise you feel much more energized; plus, when you improve your strength and stamina, it’s easier to accomplish everyday tasks.

While exercise may make you feel more tired at first, he says, that won’t last long – it’s no excuse!

The physical tiredness you feel after working out isn’t the same as everyday fatigue. Once your body adjusts to exercise, you’ll have more energy than ever.

4. It’s Not That Hard to Find Time for Fitness

Use your time more wisely and access all of our new classes! And, if you just go for a hike on one of our beautiful local trails that works too! A half hour, even 15 minutes is better than nothing!

5. Fitness Can Help Build Relationships

Aren’t we all just more civil after a workout? Exercising with a spouse or friend, like at boot camp, strengthens our bond with each other and our fitness!

Many experts believe that for long-term weight loss, you need to have social support.

6. Exercise Helps Ward Off Disease

Research has shown that exercise can slow or help prevent heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, arthritis, osteoporosis (bone loss), and loss of muscle mass. New studies find that aerobic exercise may ward off dementia!

Ever notice that people who don’t exercise, for the most part, look older? Exercise strengthens the muscles and joints, it is going to reduce your odds of having some of those aches and pains and problems most older adults have due to inactivity. Exercise can even boost immune function — so you spend less time down with a cold or flu

7. Your heart is a muscle, make it WORK!

Exercise creates a stronger heart — the most important muscle in the body. This helps makes exercise — and the activities of daily life — feel easier.

Over time, exercise allows your heart and cardiovascular system to function more effectively. Your heart will build up less plaque and in turn be a stronger pump.

When your heart becomes stronger, it pumps more blood per beat. This means that you heart rate is lower when you rest because it doesn’t have to work as hard to move blood through your body. Compare it to the first time you came to camp and weight trained. Maybe 5 lb weights were hard for you then, but now some of you use much more!

What is amazing is that it only takes a couple days after you start exercising for your body readily adapts to the stimulus it’s getting and exercise becomes easier. It will take you longer to fatigue, and it will not take as much effort when it comes to breathing.

8. Exercise Lets You Eat More

Pound for pound, muscle burns more calories at rest than body fat. So the more muscle you have, the higher your resting metabolic rate. And, of course, you also burn calories while you’re actually exercising.

All this means that “cheating” with a cookie once in a while isn’t going to take you back 10 steps. Can you eat anything? Maybe not, but you can afford to enjoy some of the things you really like when you exercise regularly. You can better get away with those things in moderation than you can when you’re not working out.

9. Exercise Boosts Performance

Exercising consistently will strengthen your muscles, increase flexibility, and improve your overall performance. Your muscles will start to work much more efficiently and you’ll gain a greater sense of endurance.

10. Functionality, not Weight Loss, should be your goal.

Weight loss is the reason many people come to Gumsaba. I always tell them they will lose fat, but to see a change on the scale its about how you eat.

Exercise will make your body will feel better,  give you more energy and you will be less stressed and those are all things I would trade a pound or two for!
