There’s no stopping it.  Just when everything feels nice and cozy, and things are “going our way” life throws us off balance. The question is not whether this will happen, but when. All we can do is be prepared to recover effectively, and the only way we prepare is to challenge our own balance.

We build our center when we challenge ourselves. With focus and work, we learn to recover faster, to regain our momentum quicker. We learn that sabotaging an already dim situation with dimmer thoughts does not help our cause. We learn that, though we may feel sad, hurt, lonely or defeated, these are temporary emotions. We come to understand that we can not only weather the storm, we are better for having walked through it.

Consistency is key. We have to challenge our balance every day to make our center as strong as it can be. Each time you workout, each time you smile in the face of adversity, each time you decide to take the higher, harder road, you are building your strong center. Be both persistent and consistent with this concept, and you will be ready…even when you least expect to!
